What type of equipment do you use?

I shoot with a combination of the best pro cameras that Nikon makes: Nikon D800, Nikon D3S, and a Nikon D4. You will often see me using two to three cameras at a time, all with different lenses and settings. I also use a multitude of different lenses including Nikon 24-70mm F2.8, 70-200mm F2.8, 17-35mm F2.8, 50mm F1.4, 24mm F1.4, 150mm Macro F2.8, and 150-500mm.

Do you bring backup equipment?

For every shoot I bring backup cameras, lenses, flashes, ample batteries, and memory cards.

Do you shoot in RAW format?

I always shoot in RAW format, as it captures more detail than a compressed JPEG.

Do you Photoshop all of your photos?

I Photoshop all of the photos that my clients receive for Weddings, Engagements, Event, and Corporate sessions. I rarely Photoshop landscapes as I use graduated filters, sunset/sunrise filters, and polarizers, which enhance the natural elements.

What do you offer that is different from budget photographers?

There is a huge difference between a budget photographer and a professional photographer.  Professional photographers have a tremendous amount of experience in working with natural and artificial lighting, posing, getting natural smiles, and being able to capture the spontaneous expressions and actions of people.  Each wedding that I photograph involves a minimum of 60 to 70 hours of work that includes Photoshop work on every photograph and creating a customized DVD slideshow.  I shoot with the best cameras and lenses that Nikon makes. I photograph a wide variety of subject matter, which makes me that much better at wedding photography.
Budget photographers are forced into volume weddings, which means that they do not have time to perfect your wedding photos.  The following photos are a side by side comparison of what Photoshop work involves.  This was one of the last shots during a formal session and happened very quickly.  I really liked the photo and how the couple embraced each other.  The problems with the composition were that the dress was tucked under at the front and in the background someone was walking by one of the pillars.  In a slideshow or album layout these details will stand out, whereas I want the focus to be on the bride and groom.  I repaired the dress, removed the person beside the pillar and removed some of the shadows on the bride's hair, which allowed for the beautiful golden light to highlight her hair.  Toggle the arrow keys at the top right of the photo a few times to see the before and after photo.  Pay careful attention to the bottom of the bride's dress, then look to the back right corner near the pillar, then look at the pillar near the stair case and finally focus on the bride's hair.

Will I be guaranteed that you will be the one taking my photos?

I am the sole photographer that takes all the photos for weddings, engagements, portraits, events, and corporate shoots.  There is the possibility of adding a second photographer to your package, which has the advantage of allowing for more camera angles and locations to be covered in a limited amount of time.

What is your turnaround time for getting photos done?

Digital files and the slideshow will be ready in 2 to 4 weeks from the date of your wedding.  Album design takes longer as clients need to choose which photos they want to include in the album. Once the selection has been made, the album design can take up to 4 weeks, and once approved by the clients ordering can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months. The time for shipping depends on the type of album, as some are shipped from the United States and others are handcrafted in Italy.

Are you insured?

Yes I am insured! Having business insurance is extremely important as some venues such as hotels will not allow a photographer to work on their property without insurance.

Do you travel for weddings or other work?

I have traveled to many different places for wedding photography.  Give me a call or drop me an email if you would like me to participate in your destination wedding.

Why do you have an Alberta and Saskatchewan phone number?

My residence is in Calgary, but I grew up in Saskatoon, which is why I travel between the two cities so often.
